Dr. Baeke received his General Surgery residency training at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital (California) and then completed a 2nd residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at St. Francis Memorial Hospital (San Francisco, CA). In between the two residencies, Dr. Baeke was an Emergency Medicine physician in central California.
Dr. Baeke graduated with Honors from the University of Kansas with Degrees in Biology and Microbiology. He later graduated from the Kansas University School of Medicine and was presented the Don Guffey award for excellence in research on the History & Philosophy of Medicine. Dr. Baeke then moved to California, completing residencies in General Surgery at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco. As a resident, he won the California Society of Plastic Surgeons competition for his research in wound healing.
Dr. Baeke has had a busy career. He was an Emergency Medicine physician in California for six years. He participated in medical mission work in Central America; was an advisor to Johnson & Johnson Wound Care division; was one of the original investigators for the KCI-3M Wound V.A.C.; developed a medical center burn unit and a wound care center; taught at the university and residency levels; received awards from his peers for research; lectured on the national stage; published in peer-reviewed journals; received U.S. and foreign patents for improvements in breast implant design; has testified as an invited-expert and key-opinion-leader in multiple plastic surgery proceedings; testified before the Healthcare Finance Administration on matters of wound prevention, and testified in Washington, D.C. as an FDA clinical investigator for multiple silicone breast implant trials.
Most recently, Dr. Baeke was key in developing a program of laser tattoo removal for inmates at the Santa Barbara County Jail.
Dr. Baeke is an aficionado of old cars, jazz music, and mid-century architecture. His avocation is performing historical research, writing and publishing. He is passionate about KU-Jayhawk basketball, motorsports, mountain hiking, clean comedy and b & w movies. Obviously, he is a devotee of the feminine form, studying its art and fashion. He was honorably discharged as a Commander in the U.S. Navy and later elected as a member of the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District, Board of Governors. Dr. & Mrs. Baeke love husky dogs and have four children. He is a Believer.
